Potential!

Well I am excited to say the least! When we got our little place 2 years ago not much had ever been dine with these 6 acres. The previous owner had planted a few pecan trees and let horses have the run of the place. Yesterday I went with my pal to the USDA office and we found a real advocate for our venture. The Natural Resources Conservation Service is going to send an consultant who will walk our property with us and help us map it out for maximum potential. We want to have at least 10 bee hives. (We currently have 2) Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, as well as growing food. They help with the resources to make this become possible as well. So I am excited about potential....big dreams here!

More Baskets!

My uber talented husband has been hard at work on hod baskets for a dear friend and one for me! He even put our Seven Pines brand on the side. I gave them a little white wash, and he will finish the wire mesh on them in the morning. What do y'all think?

Brrrrr.. Baby it's Cold Outside

Wow! It got cold quick around here! Yesterday I noticed it has been so warm this week that bluebonnets were starting to come up. Well, I reckon they won't make it through the freeze we are going to have tonight.
Good thing all our chicks and barn kitties have heat lamps and cozy spots to be snuggled up in. Pray for our neighbors in North Texas..bad tornadoes have left horrible devastation. Stay warm y'all.

Just Eggs

Our homestead came with a horse barn. We don't really want horses (to expensive) so we have converted a couple stalls for our egg laying chickens. Our rooster is named Oliver and he is the nicest rooster we have ever had! We sell eggs as well as hatch out chicks in the spring and summer. My hope is to increase our flock to around 12-15 good layers and perhaps one more rooster if I can find another nice one! Happy birds and happy humans.

Again

Farm dog

I am sorry those last pics were sized to big! I am experimenting with a blogger app on my phone and trying to make it easier to blog and take pics all at once. ..so that being said, let's see how  Bryan our Australia shepherd came out!

Posts going in!

i am wondering why this image looks like html language. I am experimenting with exporting pictures from my phone to the ancient laptop I am blogging from..when I publish it they look right. Oh well! My wonderful husband and 15 yr old spent a few more hours putting in cedar posts for our pasture area. our hope is to have Nigerian Dwarf goats for dairy use by summertime. Nothing better than hard work!

A very warm and sunny Sunday in South Texas. We have been on the homestead for two years now and have come to the realization that was a "two year plan" is going to be a "rest of our lives" plan! put cilantro starts in our green house this afternoon and swept out the barn.. jumped on the garden tractor and knocked down some dead broomweed. Our honeybees were drinking from the hummingbird feeders while it was warm. felt pretty productive for a day of rest.
